Pres. Rody Duterte wants to speed up the construction of the P7.7 billion New Bohol Airport which is now undergoing construction in Panglao, Bohol. The Duterte administration adheres the "value of impatience" in terms of achieving developmental projects in the country.

The New Bohol Airport was initiated by former Pres. Aquino with a target date of completion before Christmas 2017 or early 2018. The construction of the airport started during the Aquino administration last June 2015.

Before the construction began during PNOy's term, the New Bohol Airport really started during the term of his mother, Pres. Cory Aquino when the DOTC Secretary was former Bohol Gov. Constacio "Nonoy" Torralba. The project has long been delayed passing through the terms of Pres. Ramos, Pres. Estrada and Pres. Arroyo.

Due to the long history of delay, Pres. Rody Duterte promised to speed up the construction of the New Bohol Airport as he tasked NEDA Director Gen. Erneso Pernia to personally inspect the on-going construction of the project, the completion of which is considered as a "game changer" in Bohol's economy.

The construction site of the New Bohol Airport was visited by the NEDA Chief together with Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto and told the project consultants and contractor to speed up the construction.

The NEDA Chief noted that Bohol's most desired development must accelerate as it will propel the province to globalization. Ernesto Pernia, a native of Bohol island, was primarily responsible for the approval of the additional P700 million budget for the three boarding bridges or tubes at the second floor

Pres. Duterte ordered all concerned government agencies to speed up the development projects nationwide including those projects initiated by the previous administration.

The new Bohol Airport features a 2,000 meter runway built on international standard and incorporates the latest environmentally friendly and energy saving features that will complement Bohol's reputation as an eco-tourism destination. In addition, the pre-departure area will be the only section of the airport that is air-conditioned and powered by solar energy, while the remaining areas will be open-air.
